Error 21005: Application installation failed

An application failed to install due to one of the following issues:

  • There is an error with the APK that you’ve uploaded to Custom Configurator
  • There is an app installed on this device with the same package name

To troubleshoot

Check if the APK installs properly without the Custom Configurator profile:

  1. On the device, go to Settings > Lock screen and security.
  2. Under Unknown sources, tap the slider to allow the installation of apps from sources other than Google Play.
  3. Connect the device to your computer via USB.
  4. Transfer the APK to your device.
  5. Tap My Files or Tools > My files and navigate to the folder where you’ve sideloaded the APK.
  6. Tap the package name and accept prompts to install the app.
  7. If the APK fails to install, contact the developer for that app. If the APK successfully installs, uninstall the APK and try installing it again via KNOX Customization Configurator.

If the error occurs again, proceed with the following steps:

Check if there is an app with the same package name that has already been installed on the device:

  1. On the device, tap Settings > Applications > Application Manager > All to see a list of all apps that have been installed on the device.
  2. If an app has the same package name, uninstall the existing app and try enrolling your device again.
